An arrest citation provided additional details about an overnight shooting in Nicholasville that resulted in the death of Anthony Rector and the arrest of 25-year-old Tanner Brice Hamilton in connection to the shooting.

The citation detailed that Hamilton went to the victim's home twice. During the second visit, he allegedly caused substantial damage to the victim's vehicle before fleeing the scene.

The victim chased Hamilton in a vehicle for a short distance before Hamilton stopped his car and got out, according to the citation.

"The above and the victim got into a verbal argument and at some point the above pulled a handgun on the victim and fired one round that struck the victim in his chest," the citation stated.

Rector was pronounced dead at UK Hospital while officers were still on scene.

Hamilton claimed to police that during the verbal argument, the victim tried to grab the gun, which is when he fired one shot.

According to the citation, Hamilton never stated that he saw the victim with any weapon, nor did the victim threaten him with physical harm.

Police noted that Hamilton "abandoned a route of egress and confronted the victim beginning the verbal altercation."

Hamilton has been charged with first-degree manslaughter.
