BATH COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — Kentucky State Police confirm one person drowned at Cave Run Lake earlier today.
Trooper Scott Ferrell says the body was recovered in the Stoney Cove Beach area.
Bath County Coroner Andrew Owens says the victim was 22 year-old Cubaka Mutayongwa. He is from Lexington.
The coroner says Mutayongwa was kayaking with his girlfriend, when their kayak took on water. They got out of the kayak and tried to swim to shore.
Owens says that it appears Mutayongwa helped to save his girlfriend’s life by pushing her to safety, but he drowned before they reached the dock.
This happened around 3:30 on Saturday afternoon, and he was recovered two hours later.
