JESSAMINE COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A Jessamine County man has died after being shot by his mother Wednesday night, officials confirm.

Jessamine County Sheriff's Department officials said the shooting occurred about 8 p.m. at a home on Mackey Pike near Nicholasville. Deputies said the woman and her adult son were in an argument when the shooting occurred.

The man, identified as 30-year-old James Davis, was taken to a Lexington hospital for treatment, but later passed away from his injuries.

Deputies confirmed that Davis lived at the home with his parents. His mother tells detectives that she acted in self-defense. No charges have been filed yet.

The case will be handed to a grand jury.
