LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX18) — A convicted rapist and child molester who was accidentally released from a Georgia prison was recaptured in Kentucky.

Georgia prison officials say around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, 31-year-old Tony Maycon Munoz-Mendez was caught in Fort Thomas, near Cincinnati, Ohio.

Munoz-Mendez was mistakenly released from Rogers State Prison in southeast Georgia around noon last Friday.

He was serving a life sentence after being convicted of two counts of rape back in 2015. The case apparently involved his then girlfriend's daughter.

It's unclear what mistake led to his release.
