(LEX 18) — A Republican state Senator who recently endorsed Attorney General Andy Beshear in the 2019 gubernatorial match up has announced that he is resigning from his position.

Sen. Dan Seum notified the governor's office Thursday of his plans to leave office. His last day will be Nov. 16, 2019.

Seum crossed party lines to endorse AG Beshear. He also recently made headlines for his outspoken support of medical marijuana following his own treatment for cancer.

Seum is 80-years-old and serves the 38th district which serves parts of Bullitt and Jefferson Counties.
