RICHMOND, Ky. (LEX 18) — Richmond police held a solemn ceremony outside of their headquarters to mark the anniversary of the death of one of their own.
Officer Daniel Ellis was shot while investigating a robbery in November of 2015. He received a gunshot wound to the head and died a few days later. Officers from around the state escorted his body back to Richmond in the early morning hours of Nov. 6.
He left behind a wife and son.
Four years later, officers stood in silence outside Richmond headquarters and laid a wreath on Officer Ellis' cruiser. A radio dispatch was sent out over police dispatch honoring his "ultimate sacrifice." You can watch video of the brief service here.
