UPDATE: Nov. 23 at 9:12 p.m.

A 17-year-old male was arrested following an hours-long barricade situation on Sunday, according to the Scott County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies with the Scott County Sheriff's office responded to the 100 block of Laurie Lane on Sunday morning for a weapons offense after the caller said the teen had shot through a bathroom door while another family member was inside.

They say they conducted search and arrest warrants after several unsuccessful attempts at contacting the juvenile, with the help of the Scott County Sheriff Special Response Team (SRT), along with Georgetown Police.

Deputies say they entered the residence, and while preparing to go into a bedroom, the juvenile fired one single gunshot through a wall and hit a ballistic shield held by one of the deputies.

Units then left the home to negotiate, and then SRT deployed gas into the home. They say the teen came out with his hands up a few minutes later and surrendered without further incident.

The Sheriff's Office thanks the Georgetown Police Department for assistance, and also the Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman, who recently provided the ballistic shields used in Sunday's barricade.

They say, "These shields were provided to law enforcement through a grant from his office. This incident demonstrates the professionalism and dedication that our deputies have to bring about a safe conclusion to all parties involved. While holding the suspect responsible."

The juvenile is lodged in the Fayette Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Lexington pending charges.
