WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (LEX 18) — Hazmat crews were responding Monday morning in Whitley County after a semi tanker hauling "flammable material" overturned and was hanging off a bridge.
The crash occurred around 6 a.m. just south of Williamsburg on Buck Creek Road, officials said. The semi driver spent the night at a nearby Pilot and was headed to Richmond, but ended up on a back road. The back of the semi got caught on a guardrail.
Kentucky State Police said the area was being evacuated and would closed for hours. There is a school nearby and law enforcement is monitoring air quality.
Officials said the tanker was hauling butyl acrylates. The substance is very flammable.
