LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Police in Lexington arrested a Nicholasville man Wednesday on drug and fleeing charges after an investigation at a motel sparked a car chase.

Authorities said Shannon Dewayn Lairson, 36, is facing several charges after the incident, which caused traffic problems west of downtown.

According to Lairson's arrest citation, he "was observed operating the listed vehicle in reference to a possible kidnapping and sexual exploitation of a female juvenile."

When police arrived at the scene at Motel 6 on Newtown Pike, Lairson allegedly sped away in a Toyota Avalon, resulting in the chase.

The pursuit ended when a Avalon got caught in traffic just before 11 a.m. at West Main Street and Oliver Lewis Way.

Lairson fled on foot but was apprehended and found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the citation.

Lairson was charged with first-degree fleeing or evading police in a motor vehicle, first-degree fleeing or evading police on foot, possession of drug paraphernalia and first-degree wanton endangerment.

He was being held in the Fayette County Detention Center.
