Three arrests made in 1989 cold case murder

CAMPBELLSBURG, KY (LEX 18) — More than thirty years after a murder in Gallatin County, police have arrested three suspects in the case.

State police announced that Ricky H. Asher, Shawn F. Satchwell and Curtis W. Sharon were arrested hours after being indicted Friday.

Troopers say that all three are charged in connection to the death of Bernard "Cowboy" Hopkins, who was found killed in his home in Gallatin County on March 13th, 1989. State police say they focused on the trio of suspects thanks to further investigation and new leads that emerged in recent years.

State police say their troopers, the Gallatin County Sheriff's Office, the Switzerland County, Indiana Sheriff's Office teamed with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms, the U.S. Secret Service on the case. No further details on the investigation were given.

Asher is being held in Leslie County on charges of tampering with physical evidence and criminal facilitation to murder. Satchwell is booked in the Boone County Detention Center on a murder charge. Sharon was arrested in Indiana and charged with complicity to murder and solicitation of murder.
