Trump parade, counter-protest set for Sunday afternoon

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Two different events, one to celebrate President Donald Trump and another to denounce him, are scheduled at the same time in Lexington on Sunday.

The "Trump Parade" is set for 1 p.m.

According to a Facebook event, supporters will drive around New Circle Drive to celebrate the President.

Organizers wrote, "We’re going to peacefully parade around New Circle Rd in support of our country, our Law enforcement & our Great President. Be encouraged, follow the law, be safe & have a fun patriotic end of the festive weekend," in the event's Facebook description.

More than 5,000 people have said they are interested in attending the event, while 1,500 have confirmed on Facebook that they will go.

At the same time, a "Dump Trump" rally has been scheduled at 1 p.m.

According to the Facebook event page, the rally was organized as a counter-protest to the Trump Parade.

Organizers wrote, "Racism, sexism, classism, homophobia, and xenophobia are not welcome in our city. It is our duty to fight for our freedom!" in the event's Facebook description.

Participants are meeting at North Broadway and New Circle Road. The event page said shuttle service from 12th St and Broadway will be offered between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

While 42 people have said they are interested in attending, 13 have confirmed on Facebook that they will go.
