LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — The University of Kentucky began its mandated flu shots program on Sunday.
This season, all graduated and undergraduate students will be required to get the shot.
The move to make the vaccine mandatory was made with COVID-19 in mind. Health experts have said the one-two punch of getting both coronavirus and the flu could have devastating consequences.
On a college campus, seasonal flu can spread quickly.
It's also being done because the flu and COVID-19 symptoms can mimic one another.
"They've done a great job in just minimizing the exposure and keeping an outbreak from happening. It's obviously what their goal is," said student Madison Balesk.
"I think they are doing a pretty good job. A lot of stuff going on, a lot of procedures, they are keeping everyone in the loop safe," said student Eric Danielson.
The university will be setting up more flu shot clinics across campus.
