LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — As millions of people across the country mourned the monumental loss of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg over the weekend, two UK College of Law students hopped into a car to travel to Washington, D.C. to pay tribute to the late justice.

"When someone this important to us and the profession and the country passes away, it just felt right to go there and pay our respects and see the moment that was happening in D.C.," Zac Losey, a third year law student, said.

Losey and his friend, Gammon Fain, were at a bar Friday night when they found out about Ginsburg's death, but the news didn't sink in until later that night.

The next morning, Fain had an idea. He reached for his phone to text Losey.

"[Fain] said he had a dream that last night we drove to Washington and put flowers on the Supreme Court steps," Losey said. "And he said, 'What if we actually did it?' And I was like, 'What if we did?'"

After Fain finished his shift at work, the two friends drove to D.C., arriving after midnight. In the morning, they grabbed flowers and went to a coffee shop to print out a paper with the words "Rosenberg College of Law."

"Lawyers everywhere look up to her," Losey said. "I think a lot of our friends and colleagues at the law school look up to her and consider her a hero, so it felt right to leave a piece of Kentucky there."
