Warning: Text scam involves impersonating a state agency

FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18) — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is warning people about a fraudulent text message being sent to some across the state.

The text phishing attempt is impersonating a state agency, listing the sender as "KYDOT."

The message reads:

KY - KYDOT
Dear KYDOT customer, we've received an update on regulation-complaint, Please update your contact information. For Detail Visit: (link not included in story)

The Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) says the text is not from KYTC, and is warningrecipients do not click on the link within the text message.

KYTC says the agency does not send text messages to request personal information.

KYTC also asks anyone who did submit personal information, to visit the Attorney General's website and follow the guidance for identity theft.
