HARLAN COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — Kentucky State Police arrested a woman who they said was drunk when she stole a school bus.

Authorities said 35-year-old Teresa Wells was arrested after police were called out Sunday about 7:30 to the Cawood community.

Police said witness reported that Wells had taken the bus and was driving it in the area.

A trooper was able to get Wells to pull the bus over but she initially refused to leave, officials said. She left a short time later and was determined to be under the influence.

Wells was charged with driving under the influence, no operator's license and no seat belt. She was being held in the Harlan County Detention Center.

Police said the bus was not damaged. The case remains under investigation.
