MERCER COUNTY, Ky. (LEX News) — A Mercer County woman has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of her husband during a domestic violence dispute last month, according to the Mercer County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies responded to a reported domestic assault in progress on McAfee Lane on Aug. 23. When they arrived, they found an adult man who had been shot. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, according to an arrest warrant.
Investigators processed the scene, conducted interviews and executed multiple search warrants. Chief Deputy Sean Brown said that after reviewing evidence and conducting additional interviews, investigators determined there was probable cause to seek a charge of murder-domestic violence.
Authorities arrested Em McCormick on Aug. 31. She is charged with one count of murder-domestic violence in the death of her husband, Andrew Hillard, according to court records.
The arrest warrant alleges that McCormick told a friend she shot Hillard after he entered the couple's residence. The warrant states investigators found no signs of forced entry and that evidence indicated Hillard was shot in the back.
The warrant further states that investigators found no evidence of a physical altercation before the shooting. A district judge signed the warrant on Aug. 31.
McCormick was lodged in custody and is being held without bond, according to court records.
