LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Kentucky native country music star Chris Stapleton will headline the first concert event at Kroger Field in what promises to be one of the biggest shows ever in Lexington.

Stapleton will play along with Willie Nelson, Sheryl Crow and Yola on Saturday, April 25. The concert is dubbed "A Concert for Kentucky."

“I was born here in Lexington, Kentucky, and I was raised in Eastern Kentucky my whole life," Stapleton said at Kroger Field, where he joined officials in making the big announcement. "So to get to be the first person to play here and to do it with friends like Willie Nelson, it’s a bucket list thing for me.”

Tickets go on sale Friday, Oct. 11, at 10 a.m. All net proceeds will go to the Outlaw State of Kind Hometown Fund.

Stapleton -- a five-time Grammy Award-winner who also has seven Academy of County Music Awards -- is among country music's hottest stars.

The prospect of seeing a hometown hero playing along with a legend of Nelson's stature and others suggests Kroger Field could be packed with upward of 60,000 fans.

UK Athletics and the entertainment company Live Nation are the sponsors.
