MOUNT HEALTHY, Ohio (WLWT/LEX 18) — A Cincinnati-area community is in mourning after a shooting left a 3-year-old girl dead.
WLWT reports here that the girl, identified as Damia Barnett, was killed Friday in what police are saying appears to be an accidental shooting.
Police were called to Clovernook Avenue in Mount Healthy early Friday night.
Rev. Peterson Mingo told WLWT that his son was in the neighborhood when people ran up to his car screaming for help. Mingo said his son called 911 and tried to perform CPR on the child.
“It’s extremely tragic for something like this to happen, and it makes you want to spend more time with your kids and really cherish your moment because something like this can happen just like that and that’s how it happened,” Mingo said.
So far, no charges have been filed in the case. Results of the investigation will be turned over to Hamilton County prosecutor’s office.
