WASHINGTON, D.C. (NBC Washington)- Two South Dakota turkeys are vying for the coveted presidential pardon to avoid ending up as dinner at the Thanksgiving White House.

“Peas” and “Carrots” were chosen from a flock of 50 candidates. The two have been checked-in to the Williard Incontinental, a five-star hotel.

Only one of the 40-pound birds will be named the official National Thanksgiving Turkey.
