HANOVER, Ind. (WAVE 3)— An Indiana firefighter is accused of setting fire to a home several times.

Police arrested 23-year-old William Desch on Monday after they said he admitted to the crime.

The fire happened Oct. 12 at a home on State Road 62 in Hanover.

Officials said when firefighters arrived, the home was fully engulfed in flames. It took them hours to put the fire out.

Police said the house was not being lived in at the time, and no one was inside when firefighters responded.

Fire investigators discovered the fire was intentionally set and turned over the case to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department on Nov. 30.

Police said Desch told them he not only started that fire, but went back to the house two more times after it was put out and started two other fires, neither of which caught.

Desch is charged with three counts of arson and two counts of burglary — all felony charges.

He’s being held in the Jefferson County Jail ahead of his first court date.
