(LEX 18)– The Netflix movie “Bird Box” has dominated pop culture over the last few weeks. There are memes galore and now a new social media challenge has been born. Unfortunately, that challenge involves walking around in a blindfold…and you can probably guess the rest.
The plot of the movie involves a world where people are forced to wear blindfolds to protect against a monster that attacks by sight. The #BirdBoxChallenge involves people attempting to navigate their surroundings or perform everyday tasks while wearing a blindfold.
Netflix posted on their Twitter asking fans of the movie to not participate in the challenge after reports of people getting hurt.
“Can’t believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE. We don’t know how this started, and we appreciate the love, but Boy and Girl have just one wish for 2019 and it is that you not end up in the hospital due to memes,” wrote the Netflix.
