CLARK COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — To combat overcrowding, the Clark County Animal Shelter recently launched a new program, called "Home to Home."

It's designed for owners who have some time before they need to give up their pets.

For example, the program is well suited for pet owners who may be moving into a new apartment that doesn't allow pets or someone in deteriorating health who can't take care of an animal for much longer.

"Home to home" allows these owners to post their pet for adoption on the Clark County Animal Shelter's website.

Prospective owners can then message directly with the owner and make arrangements to meet.

Through this system, the animal would never have to go to the shelter.

The shelter takes all animals for the "Home to Home" program, but they must be spayed or neutered. If they are not, the shelter has a voucher program.
