(LEX 18) — What better way to get rid of 145 tons of over-ripe tomatoes, which are not good for consumption? A massive food fight!
That is exactly what one eastern Spanish town is prepping for. The tomatoes are being transported to the town of Bunol where thousands will hurl them at each other on Wednesday for the annual Tomatina Food Fight Festival.
A fire cracker will signal the start of the food fight, which will last exactly one hour.
The Tomatina is said to have originated from a spontaneous fight between villagers in 1945.
