NEWTOWN, Conn. (NBC Connecticut) – Sandy Hook Elementary School students have been sent home for the day after a bomb threat forced an evacuation on the sixth anniversary of the massacre that killed 20 first-graders and six educators.

According to NBC Connecticut, the threat was made Friday and the school was evacuated out of an abundance of caution.

The school where the shooting happened on Dec. 14, 2012, was knocked down and a new building was constructed at the same site.

Officials say this isn’t related to the nationwide bomb threats.
