UPDATE: Dec. 31 at 1:00 p.m.

A 24-year-old London man was arrested Wednesday morning in connection with an armed robbery at Marathon Superstation that occurred on Dec. 23.

Tanner Couch was taken into custody at approximately 7:18 a.m. on Wednesday at a residence off Hopper Creek Road, according to the Laurel County Sheriff's Office.

According to officials, the arrest stems from an investigation into the armed robbery at the Marathon Superstation on Barbourville Road.

During the robbery, officials say a lone suspect entered the store armed with a pistol and allegedly stole an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing on foot.

Following the incident, the sheriff's office posted information about the robbery on their Facebook page, and the public response generated numerous tips that, combined with information developed by investigators, led to the positive identification of the suspect.

Officials say an arrest warrant was issued charging Couch with first-degree robbery. On Wednesday morning, investigators developed information about Couch's whereabouts and traveled to the Hopper Creek Road residence, where they arrested him without incident.

Couch was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
