Lexington police looking for 23-year-old suspect in Woodhill Drive homicide

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Investigators have identified a suspect in a shooting on Woodhill Drive that killed a 20-year-old man.

A warrant for Murder has been issued for 23-year-old Caelan Gills. Anyone with information about Gills's whereabouts is asked to contact police by calling (859) 258-3600.

The 20-year-old man died following a shooting on Woodhill Drive in Lexington Monday afternoon.

The Lexington Police Department says the man was shot inside a vehicle on Woodhill Drive. He later died from his injuries at a local hospital. The Fayette County Coroner's Office identified the man who died as Ja'quis Ray.

A 20-year-old woman was also struck but her injuries are not life-threatening.

Police say an initial report suggests both victims were inside the vehicle in the parking lot of the Woodhill Food Mart when an unknown Black male suspect fired multiple shots at them.

The suspect was captured on surveillance video. Police say the man appears to be in his early 20s with shoulder-length dreadlocks and was armed at the time of the shooting. The suspect's vehicle also appears to be a silver Chevrolet Cruze.

Police say the suspect possibly left the scene in a silver passenger car. About an hour and a half after the shooting, another incident took place at nearby Mount Tabor. However, police do not believe the two incidents are related.
