(LEX 18) — A local businessman has been indicted by a Fayette County Grand Jury on violations of campaign finance laws.

Timothy Wellman, an executive with CRM Companies, has been faced with a 16-count indictment. He has been accused of arranging third parties to make campaign contributions to local campaigns, then reimbursing them for the amount contributed.

The alleged offenses took place between March and May of 2018.

Wellman has also been faced with federal charges. He has been accused of lying about the campaign contributions to two Lexington city council members and encouraging some of his employees to lie about their contributions.

Wellman has entered a not guilty plea to all charges in federal court. He is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges on September 6 in Fayette Circuit Court.
