Fallen deputy honored by community

MEADE COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — On Saturday, people in Meade County celebrated one of their own who died in the line of duty.

Meade County Sheriff's Deputy Chris Hulsey died last Saturday while arresting a suspect. Saturday, he arrived at his final resting place.

The law enforcement community in Meade County gave thier last salute to one of their own.

Hulsey suffered a medical emergency while making an arrest in Paynesville. He was only 46 years old.

He had previously served as a member of the fire department before joining the Meade County Sheriff's Department.

At the time of his death, he was a full time paramedic and a volunteer sheriff's deputy.

On Saturday, hundreds of people paid their respects and remembered a man as the hero he was.

"It's not how you die that makes you a hero. It's how you live. Chris lived that hero life," said Sheriff Phillip Wimpee.

The suspect Hulsey was trying to arrest has been identified as 48-year-old Terry Gonterman, who is facing several charges, including manslaughter in connection with Hulsey's death.
