LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Gov. Matt Bevin is ordering flags to be flown at half-staff on Saturday in honor of a Kentucky serviceman who was killed in action during the Korean War.
Private First Class Ray Fairchild of Salyersville was killed in action back in 1950 in a city just west of the Chosin River in North Korea.
The United States received his remains four years later, but they were unable to identify him until this past summer, thanks to more advanced technology.
Fairchild will be buried on Saturday in Magoffin County.
