LOUISVILLE, Ky. (LEX 18) — Louisville native and former NBA player Anthony Grundy has died following a stabbing.

Police said they were called around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday for a report of a shooting on Muhammad Ali Boulevard in downtown Louisville.

Officers said they found the 40-year-old suffering from multiple stab wounds.

Grundy was taken to the University of Louisville Hospital where he later died.

Grundy played basketball at North Carolina State from 1998 to 2002. He then went on to play 12 games in the NBA with the Atlanta Hawks and later had a 12-year professional basketball career overseas.

Back in June, Grundy had made headlines when he turned himself in to police following a deadly hit-and-run crash in Louisville.

He was scheduled to be in court for a pre-trial hearing on Dec. 11.
