LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Employees at bdG Sports in Lexington watched from afar as Hurricane Dorian devastated the Abaco Islands in the Bahamas earlier this month.

It's a place they'd visited many times before, in planning and carrying out the Bahamas Great Abaco Classic golf tournament, according to the company's Senior Director, Jon Albaugh.

"It was tough, not knowing what was going on," he said.

But once the hurricane passed, he said, it became clear that the area had been devastated.

"Just hearing the stories first hand from a lot of people we know has been absolutely heartbreaking," he said, "so just wanted to do our part, rally the friends we have in central Kentucky and see what we can do to help the recovery."

Their plan to do that is, "Bluegrass for the Bahamas," a fundraiser aimed at raising money and collecting donations to go towards the recovery effort in Abaco.

A charity event will be held on Wednesday, October 23 at Malone's Prime Events on Tates Creek Road. Tickets can be purchased at here. Information about the fundraiser is available on the same website.

The company is also reaching out to college athletics teams to ask for clothing donations.

"We're challenging all the men's and women's college teams around the country to send us extra apparel," Albaugh said.
