(LEX 18) — A funeral was held today for two sisters killed in a car accident on I-75 on September 4.
26-year-old Taylor Blevins and 20-year-old Caityln Bailey were killed by a wrong way driver on I-75.
Police believe the driver, Tammy Rodriguez, was under the influence of drugs and alcohol when she hit the sister's vehicle.
Rodriguez has been charged with a DUI and driving without a license. This will be Rodriguez's fifth DUI charge.
LEX18 spoke to the aunt of the victims, who wanted to send this message to Rodriguez, "I'd like for her to know what wonderful girls she took away from our family, and she needs to pay for what she done... I hope and pray she has remorse in her heart for taking two young lives and forever changing our family, because we will never never be the same," said Elizabeth Sawyer.
The family is grateful for the help of the community in this difficult time. They were unable to afford funeral and burial expenses, so random strangers stepped in to help including Father Jim Sichko who felt compelled to pay for the funeral.
"It was such a tragedy, you know, these two young girls, kind of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Knowing that their family is in need as well, I just wanted to reach out and assist in any way I can,” said Father Jim.
Rodriguez is still recovering in the hospital, and more charges may be pending, the investigation is still ongoing.
