SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A Georgetown periodontal practice is donating funds to help victims of Australia’s wildfires.

Dr. Mark King said when he saw and heard about the wildfires’ devastating effects, he knew he wanted to do something.

"I have a patient that I saw as an emergency last week. He's from Australia. He said his family's farm burned and it hasn't rained in three-and-a-half years,” Dr. King said. “We get so out of tune with what's going on for things we don't see."

King is donating two weeks’ worth of his practice's profits to help victims.

"We can't go there directly so the best we can do is to hopefully send funds to help with fire victims, both animals and humans,” said Dr. King.

He hopes this shows no matter where you are in the world, you can make a difference.

"Hopefully this can be stopped, and we can prevent it for the future,” he said.

King also encourages people to donate directly to WWF-Australia.
