LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — It has been a busy week at the Blue Grass Airport as many people are traveling for the Thanksgiving holiday and there are things you can do to make your flying experience go smoother.

With a busy week at the airport, you always want to give yourself plenty of time to get to your gate. You can also take advantage of your phone.

There are a number of smartphone apps that can make your travel experience a lot more enjoyable.

Almost every airline has an app where you can check your flight status, check yourself in, download a mobile boarding pass and get notifications on any flight changes.

The myTSA app is a tool that you can download to double check security procedures and what not to bring. You can also use the app to report or look up security line wait times.

The number one rule of thumb this time of year is to plan ahead.

"We are anticipating a very busy travel season; this past year has been very busy for travel, so we expect the holidays certainly being the same," said Director of Marketing Amy Caudill. "We encourage folks to allow at least 90 minutes prior to their scheduled flight when they come to the airport."

Blue Grass Airport is undergoing a parking expansion, so you might notice some changes. Make sure to give yourself extra time to park your car.
