FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18) — The Kentucky House unanimously passed a bill that would restrict the price of insulin in Kentucky on Wednesday afternoon.
The bill passed 92-0 and would restrict the price of insulin to $100 per month per person. According to the American Diabetes Association, the cost of insulin has shot up more than 500 percent over the last decade.
The bill now moves on to the Kentucky Senate. If passed, it will have to be signed by Gov. Andy Beshear before it becomes a law. On Tuesday, Beshear gathered with lawmakers at the Capitol to voice their support and push for the passage of House Bill 12.
"Something more must be done to help those suffering from diabetes so that they can afford a life saving medication that they require," Beshear said.
