LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — A Lexington-Fayette Animal Care and Control officer has passed away according to a post by the agency.

Sam Hampton had only been working at the agency a few weeks before his sudden death.

"We here at Lexington Fayette Animal Care and Control are very saddened to share that a fellow ACC officer, Sam Hampton, has tragically passed away. While we only had the pleasure of working with Sam for a few weeks, it was evident to all he was an avid animal lover with a heart of gold. Sam let everyone know how much he enjoyed his job and cared for all forms of life. He had a smile for everyone he met and we are a better organization for having had Sam on our team. We have lost a cherished member of our family and our community, but we can take solace in knowing Sam’s legacy will continue to live on at LFACC. We offer our deepest condolences to his family and friends," reads the post.

A cause of death was not listed. Funeral arrangements have not yet been released.
