LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — A major accomplishment for Lexington's Lisle Adams, who finished the Kona Ironman World Championship in Hawaii over the weekend.

LEX 18 previously told you about Adams' amazing comeback.

Three years ago, Adams was preparing to compete in his first Ironman, when he nearly died in an accident on New Circle Road.

After undergoing 11 blood transfusions and 10 surgeries, Adams started the long road to recovery.

He worked tirelessly with his physical therapist and this past weekend, Adams' journey came full circle.

"It's kind of surreal. It's kind of hard for me three years out to think about three years ago I was hit by a truck," said Adams. "It seems forever ago. I think I'm a better person as a result of my accident."

Adams finished the 140.6 race in just under 14-and-a-half hours.
