LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — At least five deaths from the coronavirus have been connected to a nursing home facility in Washington.

Even though there are still no confirmed cases of the Coronavirus here in Kentucky, LEX18 spoke to Sayre Christian Village which is a nursing and assisted living center located in Lexington. They say they are doing everything they can to stay ahead of the virus

"We have to be on heightened alert because our folks are more susceptible to illness than people out in the mainstream," Sayre Christian Village CEO Karen Venis said.

Currently, they are handling the coronavirus much like they would the flu, which means extra cleaning and free flu shots to residents and staff. They also have an "infection control" expert on staff.

"She is in charge of tracking and trending," Venis said of the infection control expert. "Do we have people who are symptomatic in one area? (She is) making sure we are in communication with the health department, we have somebody that, that is their sole job," says Venis.

They say they are also prepared to quarantine patients if need be, whether it's from the flu or from the Coronavirus.
