Lextran routes will be free on Election Day

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — All Lextran routes will be free on Election Day to help increase access to the various polling locations.

According to the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement there will be nearly 15 million people between ages 18 and 29 who did not vote because of lack of transportation.

"Exercising your right to vote should not be hindered by a lack of transportation," said Lextran General Manager Carrie Butler. "That is why we are offering free rides on Election Day. To better connect people to their polling locations and empower them to particiapte in these important elections."

The polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Election Day and you can find your polling location by clicking here.

Regular bus fare is one dollar and there are various reduced fares and pass programs available to individuals who qualify.
