RICHMOND, KY- — A hot start and 53 point first half was enough for the Colonels as they handled Tennessee State 83-62 on Thursday night.

Eastern Kentucky needed this one bad. With a victory the Colonels would have locked up 4th place at the very least in the OVC, meaning they would get a bye in the tournament.

Well, they came out like it was a must win game tonight. EKU began the game on a 30-3 run, putting it out of reach before the ten minute mark in the first half.

Ty Taylor led the way with 22 points for the Colonels. He also scored his 1,000 career point in the game. Tre King added in 17 points on 8-10 shooting.

Eastern Kentucky improves to 11-4 in the conference with the win. They host Belmont in Richmond on Saturday at 7 pm.
