MEADE COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18/WAVE) — The man accused in connection to last weekend's death of a Meade County deputy appeared in court for the first time on Wednesday morning, according to WAVE.

Terry Gonterman appeared only briefly in Meade District Court on Wednesday in front of a crowded courtroom.

He was brought into the courtroom by some of Chris Hulsey's fellow deputies.

Officials said Hulsey was serving a warrant on Gonterman when police said a fight broke out.

After placing Gonterman in handcuffs, Hulsey began struggling to breath and collapsed, later dying.

Gonterman has been faced with several charges, including manslaughter and assault.

His court appearance comes as people in Meade County continue to mourn Hulsey.
