MCCREARY COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A man accused of shooting a McCreary County deputy is back in court on Tuesday.

In July, Deputy Tyler Watkins was responding to a welfare check outside Whitley County when he was shot once in his protective vest and then again in his lower abdomen.

He was flown to the University of Tennessee Hospital where he had two surgeries.

Mark Dungan, 48, faces a number of charges, including attempted murder of a police officer.

Dungan was scheduled to be back in court Tuesday morning for arraignment.
