HARDIN COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A man convicted of a police chase and crash that killed two teens in Hardin County plans to appeal his life sentence.

Police said that Shawn Welsh, 37, hit another car trying to evade officers in 2018 and killed Jacob Barber, 18, and Katarina Peeters, 17.

A jury recommended four consecutive life sentences, but the judge sentenced him to one life sentence with the possibility of parole after 20 years.

Welsh's attorney told LEX 18 that he plans to appeal soon.
