(LEX 18/WAVE) — Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said that he is hoping Congress passes the bill he co-sponsored to raise the national tobacco purchasing age from 18 to 21, according to WAVE.

McConnell said that the bill he sponsored with Virginia Democratic Senator Tim Kaine has been put into the end-of-the-year federal budget agreement.

He also said that the bill is expected to pass through the House and Senate before reaching President Donald Trump's desk to be signed into a law.

WAVE reported that a statement from McConnell's office did not say when the measure would take effect.
