LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Mayor Linda Gorton was on hand on Wednesday to unveil a new walking trail on the north side of Lexington.

The paved trail runs through Meadowthorpe Park and is about third of a mile long.

LEX 18 was told that this project has been several years in the making.

The Meadowthrope Neighborhood Associated worked with city council members and Lexington's Parks and Recreation Department to make this possible.

"I come out at 6 a.m. in the morning and go running and there's people out here running. We come here with my son in the afternoon and there's people walking, hula-hooping, riding their roller skates. So, it is really something for people of all ages and it's just a great ammenity to the neighborhood," said Jamie Rodgers, the president of the Meadowthrope Neighborhood Association.

The city of Lexington now has more than 50 trails of different lengths all across the city.
