LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Shoppers at the Bryan Station Kroger were greeted with a surprise when they hit the check out lines Saturday morning.

There, they discovered that students at Yates Elementary had decorated paper grocery bags with designs inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

More than 300 bags were decorated by each student at the school, from Kindergarten through fifth grade.

"They're a lot more talented than I am!" shopper, Suzanne Kenney, said.

"I can't even draw a stick person, but it's good. It's cute."

Shoppers said the artwork beautifully exemplified Dr. King's message to the world.

"Being a person of color, what he stood for, he just wanted everyone to be all equal," shopper, Jennifer Jay, said.

Shoppers can choose to take their groceries home in these decorated bags as long as supplies last.
