RICHMOND, Ky. (LEX 18) — In an effort to recruit more people into law enforcement, a new education program is being offered through Bluegrass Community Technical College.

The program was announced Tuesday morning at the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training in Richmond.

A two-year associate's degree program will be offered to all incoming law enforcement basic training recruits that don't currently have a degree.

Those enrolled can earn credits by attending basic training and through online classes.

"We are very proud that we are able to do this for our men and women. Being the first college in the system in the state to be selected to do this is just amazing. We're very excited," said Dr. Koffi Akakpo, the president and CEO of Bluegrass Community Technical College.

The program is funded by the Department of Criminal Justice Training.
