The Nicholasville Police Department has released new information in the shooting that happened on Edgewood Drive on Thursday morning, including the identity of the man killed.
According to police, 31-year-old James Milton was taken to the University of Kentucky Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Police say that the woman who was shot was also taken to the University of Kentucky Hospital, where she was treated for her injuries and later released.
According to police, an investigation revealed that both Milton and the shooter resided at the apartment complex.
The shooter alleged that "Milton attempted to force entry into the home," according to police. Additionally, police state that their investigation "supports this claim."
According to police, the woman arrived at the apartment complex to pick up Milton, who had reportedly been in a verbal dispute with his girlfriend the previous evening.
Police say that when leaving, Milton saw his girlfriend enter the residence shared by the shooter and his wife. Witnesses on the scene report that Milton kicked the door of the home in an attempt to gain entry.
The shooter, according to police, opened fire, striking Milton, and the investigation indicates that the woman was struck inadvertently.
Police say the shooter has not been charged with a criminal offense, but the shooting remains under investigation.

Nicholasville Police Department Major Matt Marshall confirmed to LEX 18 that two people were injured in a shooting Thursday morning on Edgewood Drive.
According to Major Marshall, a man was shot in the torso and a woman was shot in the arm; both were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Major Marshall added that the person responsible for the shooting remained at the scene and is being cooperative.
He said the shooting remains under investigation.

According to police, the roadway is closed at South 3rd Street and Bellechase Lane.
