NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (LEX 18) — Three men have been federally indicted in a romance scam that cost a Nicholasville woman over $750,000.

Thomas Inkoom, Baaki Abdul Majeed and Kaha Wuupini were indicted last month. The federal indictment states that the men collaborated to convince an elderly woman that she was talking with a man named James Nehmer.

The victim sent multiple checks in large amounts in the belief the man was investing the money in gold and silver.

The scammers also directed the woman to write that the money was for purchases of a Mercedes and a Condo in the memo line of the check.

The indictment alleges the three men created a fake company in an attempt to launder and cover the money.

The men are all charged with multiple charges including wire fraud.
