BOURBON COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — On Thursday night, the past and present will meet at Paris High School.

The basketball team will wear white and blue Paris Western jerseys, paying homage to the former all black school that won a national championship.

“The young people on the basketball team are particularly excited about being able to honor those folks through their efforts tonight,” said Paris High School Principal Joe Matthews.

That's just one celebration that will take place as a part of Paris Western High School Night. The district is holding the event to honor the history and all that western students and staff have contributed to Paris.

“These are our grandparents, these are our community members, these are people who are revered for the contributions they've made to the Paris community. It's important not just to recognize them but just to capture a little bit of their legacy,” said Matthews.

There will also be a chili supper and a tribute video shown.

Paris Western alumni like Morgan Gilkey will be recognized before the basketball game tips off.

“Just to have everyone here together to have that opportunity to see all those great faces on the floor at the same time, it's going to be a special moment for our community and a special moment for our school,” said Matthews.

The event kicks off at 6:00 p.m.

The chili supper will be served at 6:30 and the tribute video shows at 7:00.

Alumni will be honored on the basketball court at 7:15. The game tips off after that.
